Lucy Sandler Rauch 

Class of 1958

My dad was Gedalia Sandler and my uncle was Hershel Sandler.

My dad worked for the IWO and was called to testify.  Very scary to me.  Thank goodness they could not accuse him of wrongdoing.  They closed the IWO and he lost his job. That was when they set up the Jewish Cultural Clubs. 

My uncle Hershel was the Director of Kinderland.  I got questioned in my neighborhood and at school.  I said I was not related to him.  Very hard for me as I was very close with him.   I had to be two different people growing up.  Just a normal kid and a Kinderland kid. 

I was very lucky in a way as I had many friends with different outlooks.  I loved Yiddish plus I loved rock and roll.
